The best views of downtown Seattle are had from Kelly Park on Lower Queen Anne Hill. If you ever receive a postcard from Seattle, odds are fairly high that the picture was taken from this exact spot.

Seattle’s Ye Olde Curiosity Shop has been around forever – it’s a combination oddity store and gift shop. They’ve got all sorts of bizarre stuff inside, including Sylvester, an honest-to-God mummified man.

They were having wiener dog races on the Seattle Center grounds the day we were there, and the special guest was Ed the Horse, from the nearby racehorse track Emerald Downs.

If you ever watch any TV show that features Seattle, they’ll always show a shot of these guys throwing salmon through the air to each other. It’s the “thing” to do – have these guys throw a fish at you.

This is the fountain located on the grounds of the Seattle Center. It’s synchronized with classical music, and now has high-shooting water cannons and smoke effects. Pretty cool. When I was a kid the big thing to do was to climb up on top of it and place empty Coke cups on the jets, then wait for them to shoot straight up. Simple things for simple times…

Jimi Hendrix is still considered the King of the Seattle Music Scene, even though he’s been worm food for a mighty long time. This statue is on Broadway, in Seattle’s Capital Hill district. Jimi’s grave is actually in Renton, WA, about 20 miles south.

Ivar’s seafood restaurants are all over the area, and here Freja meets up with its founder, Ivar Haglund. (To Seattleites, Ivar is on par with Colonel Sanders in food icons.) Ivar’s slogan is “Keep Clam”, as good of a philosophy as I’ve ever heard.

I worked in this building many, many, many years ago – back when it was called the “Coliseum”. It’s the home of the Seattle Sonics, the Seattle Thunderbirds hockey team, and countless rock concerts.

The best views of the city are from the top of the Space Needle, but Freja admired it from the safety of below. But to make up for it we stood right where Elvis did when filming “It Happened At The World’s Fair”.

Pike Place Market, located on 1st Ave & Pike Street in downtown Seattle. It’s a huge farmer’s market, filled with tons of fresh seafood, the best produce you’ll find anywhere, and enough winos and beggars to last a lifetime. Still, it’s a pretty cool place to wander (and watch your wallet).

Here Freja visits Puget Sound and Seattle’s waterfront piers. Lots of seafood restaurants, lots of tourist activities.

Freya meets up with a salty old sailor who seems to have turned to wood.
