Kalle is cleared for boarding her 5-seater cessna to fly over the desert and see the zoomorphic figures drawn in mindboggling large scale by the nazca people. Will there be a weasel?

The Weasel enjoys the view as the plane soars over the desert.

Kalle practices her best lurk in the hedges of the Plaza des Armas in Arequipa, the white city in the south and Peru's second capital. Most of the buildings there, like the cathedral in the background, are made from white volcanic rock.

Kalle uses her vantage point to eye up a native pigeon while i enjoy the sight of Arequipa's beautiful cathedral.

The Weasel was not intimidated by the fierce boats on the floating reed islands of Los Uros on Lake Titicaca and determined to make off with the blanket - it gets cold at 4000 metres.

Kalle attempted to claim squatter's rights in the reed houses on the island.

Kalle was most attached to the cairn she had built single-pawed and wouldn't budge, even when 'encouraged' with a trekking pole. We think she caught sight of the peak, in whose shadow we would make camp, looming above the clouds. A daunting prospect.

If it's good enough for lizards.. Kalle gets down to some serious basking next to the glacial moraine from Salkantay mountain.

I thought my pack felt suspiciously heavy on the final uphill slog to the pass. Damned guide could've told me there was a freeloading weasel on my back!

Kalle poses in the pass over the shoulder of Salkantay mountain, 17,000 feet above sea level. How may weasel paws is that? Salakantay means 'the wild' in Quechua, 'cataycha' is quechua for weasel, so should this piccie be captioned 'salkantay cataycha' in my pidgin quechua?

The Weasel got cheeky with the snowballs again further along the edge of the glacier off Salkantay mountain.

Caution thrown aside, Kalle refused take our glacial crossing seriously and threatened a snowball fight.

'Help, my ton is thuck to the glathier.' Kalle messing around in a fissure in the ice.

At this point our peruvian guide gave 'dead woman's pass' (a killer high point on the inca trail) a new name in honor of Kalle. It was all too much for little weasel paws and thenceforth it was named 'dead weasel pass'.

Kalle proved somewhat reluctant to move on after finding some shelter from the rain at the "Sun" ????! gate entrance to Machu Picchu.

Kalle was thrilled by the heights above the inca city of Machu Picchu. We persuaded her to come away from the edge eventually.

A safer spot to pose in front of the great city, with the peak of Huayna Picchu (Young Peak) in the background. Machu Picchu means 'old peak' in Quechua.

Kalle shatters the legend that inca stonework at Machu Picchuis so fine, a knife blade may not be fitted into the joints between the stones. It is fact possible to fit a weasel. Inca stonework is inherently flawed and unstable and riddled with weasels.
